KnowledgeShare Reporting

KnowledgeShare is knowledge management system for healthcare professionals, developed in conjunction with Brighton & Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust. As part of a recent upgrade I was tasked with designing a new interface for the reporting element.

The existing report builder required support from a developer to write a script to create a pre-selectable option, with some basic filtering options. This was poor from the clients perspective as it meant a delay in being able to provide reports to stakeholders. Instead it was agreed that the repoting interface and backend would be completely re-written to give the user far greater control.

Knowledge Share Existing Report Builder

Instead it was agreed that the repoting interface and backend would be completely re-written to give the user far greater control. Initially we created some concepts that would give some functionality, but this was still too restictive.

We instead went back to the drawing board, and instead provided a new dedicated interface for selecting data sources, content types and filters. This would give the user the ability to create fully bespoke reports that they could fully costomise to their specific requirements.

This was then translated into a new custom interface with a dedicated left column interface, not seen in the core product. This gives the user a 'recent files' list and enables the user to quickly load recently run reports.

In addition we incorporated a new dashboard that would allow the user to have accesse to recently run and favourite reports.

The final generated report can then be fully customised to be displayed in whatever format is deemed most appropriate.

Results

The revised interface has had a significant impact, both for the client, with regard to being able to run fully customisable reports without the need to contact us which could potentially incur a delay. In addition an internal resource was also then diverted which incurred an internal cost to both us and the client, neither of which now exist.
